Dr. China Jenkins serves as Dean of Academic Support and Resources at Houston Christian University, where she leads a comprehensive portfolio of student success initiatives reporting to the Associate Provost. Her responsibilities encompass First-Year Seminar programming, Testing Services, the Writing Center, Moody Library operations, and oversight of the university’s $2.8M Title V LEAP grant as Project Director.

Under Dr. Jenkins’ leadership and in partnership with her exceptional team of directors, academic support at HCU has undergone a significant transformation. Together, they established the HCU Writing Center, redesigned the First-Year Seminar curriculum to enhance student engagement, and launched the Student Academic Success Seminar (SASS) program that achieved a 0.75 GPA increase among participants. Through the Title V grant, she and her leadership team have implemented innovative mental health and belongingness initiatives while revolutionizing Moody Library and Testing Center operations through a student employment model that provides professional development for dozens of student workers. The success of these initiatives reflects the collaborative excellence of the directors who lead each unit with dedication and expertise.

Dr. Jenkins brings two decades of progressive leadership in higher education, distinguished by her unique approach of embedding professional development into every initiative. Having designed and delivered programs for thousands of faculty, staff, and students across multiple institutions, she has learned the art of building institutional capacity at a variety of levels. Her philosophy centers on developing teams that don’t simply execute programs but evolve into learning organizations capable of assessing emerging needs, designing responsive interventions, and continuously improving their practice.

Dr. Jenkins serves on the Board of Directors for the HBCU Faculty Development Network as Secretary. Her professional credentials include certifications as an Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD), Certified Faculty Developer (CFD), Emotional Intelligence practitioner (EQ-i, EQ360), Design Thinking Facilitator, Certified DISC Facilitator, and AI Super User from Tennessee State University. An Army veteran who served as a cryptologic linguist, Dr. Jenkins brings teamwork and strategic thinking from her military service to her academic leadership.

Dr. Jenkins earned her PhD in Educational Human Resource Development and MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University, and her BA in French from Illinois State University
