Dr. Brenda Whaley, HBU professor of Biology, and Dr. Agnieszka Czopik, HBU assistant professor of Biology, have received a grant for $10,000 from the Avantor Sciences Foundation for study and student lab work with C. elegans, a microscopic worm organism. The title of their project is, 鈥淓nhancing undergraduate research and teaching at HBU through studies of C. elegans.鈥� The funding will support Dr. Whaley鈥檚 research in the ecology of C. elegans and Dr. Czopik鈥檚 use of these organisms in her immunology lab.
鈥淚t is important for biologists-in-training to be familiar with these organisms and know how to work with them,鈥� Whaley said. 聽鈥淲e are really excited that our students will have the opportunity to learn to work with these organisms.鈥�
