Dr. Brenda Whaley, HBU professor of Biology, and Dr. Agnieszka Czopik, HBU assistant professor of Biology, have received a grant for $10,000 from the Avantor Sciences Foundation for study and student lab work with C. elegans, a microscopic worm organism. The title of their project is, 鈥淓nhancing undergraduate research and teaching at HBU through studies of C. elegans.鈥 The funding will support Dr. Whaley鈥檚 research in the ecology of C. elegans and Dr. Czopik鈥檚 use of these organisms in her immunology lab.
鈥淚t is important for biologists-in-training to be familiar with these organisms and know how to work with them,鈥 Whaley said. 聽鈥淲e are really excited that our students will have the opportunity to learn to work with these organisms.鈥
